Stargate Universe - Mid Season Critique

Stargate Universe is a curious beast.
The latest in the line of Stargate shows, it goes against formula of the previous shows and aims to try and be something different. In the process it creates a curious drama, on the other it can often infuriate and test the patience of the viewer that is constantly teased with higher-concept science fiction when clashed with character drama.
What do I mean?
Well let’s go through the first half of … want to read more?

Week In Review Week #51

Heyyy and welcome to a week in my life. I’m new to the site but the concept is simple in that, every week I watch films, read books and listen to music. Here is where I review them and where I kind of talk for a while. I’ll also list some of the things I’ll be talking about so you can see if anything interests you.
Features:
* Prelude to my drunken Christmas
* Radiohead ‘The Bends’ review.

Merlin Series Two Review

Riding high off the Doctor Who / Robin Hood Saturday Night fantasy entertainment bandwagon, the latest in the line of these was Merlin, a retelling of the infamous wizard and his early days as the servant to the future legendary King Arthur.

FlashForward...The Midseason Opinion

This is going to be exciting. This is the first time I’m going to a show that there’s already been an article on. So here I am, with the previous article on FlashForward copied and pasted below this one in Word as I write. I re-read what I wrote about it three episodes in, and now we’re ten episodes in and we’ve reached the mid-season finale until we get new episodes in March. The question … want to read more?

Worst Christmas Films

Christmas films. The genre is strange in that it’s the one that can be only enjoyed at a specific time of year. Horror films may be more thrilling in October, but it is socially acceptable to view them whenever. Watching It’s A Wonderful Life in June though? Weirdo.
To celebrate this year’s festivities, I’ve been having a Christmas film marathon. Every day since December 1st, I’ve been randomly selecting a film and watching them. Admittedly I … want to read more?

We Love...Gareth Campesinos!

Not a lot is known about Gareth Campesinos, like his real name for example. Though I personally don’t think I want to know, because it gives him a certain mysterious edge which isn’t really there when you come to think about things. In fact a lot of his lyrics, especially his later ones, are auto-biographical in nature. As a lyricist, Gareth manages to have a great style of delivery and a knack of writing which … want to read more?

Misfits...So Far.

At the time of writing, four episodes of this have aired. The fifth is likely to be airing in about an hour of this posting. It’s likely to presume that it’s halfway through its run…so is the Skins-meets-No Heroes-meets-something else actually any good? Let’s have a butcher’s at the first four episodes which feature a group of young people during community service end up getting strange powers…

End Game

There is nothing interesting on at the cinema this week. The Box sees Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly stretch a twenty-minute Twilight Zone story into needless proportions. The Descent Part 2 is a retread that will surely spoil The Descent’s tag of being the best horror film of the decade. And Me and Orson Welles is a grammatically awkward tale starring Zac Efron. I’m not watching anything with Zac Efron in.

We Love...Alex Sim-Wise

Now before you start to wonder whether you’ve ventured onto a strange softcore porn site, I’d like to let you know that you haven’t. This is in fact the start of a new category for ITalkInType called…WeLoveThesePeople. An original name I grant you [/sarcasm], but this is a place where our staff members may like to pay tribute to someone that you may know, or you may not have heard of.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season One Retrospective

On a personal level it affected us. On a fan level it affected the nature of online fandom. It affected the role of women as lead characters. It spun a lot of imitations and became a huge cult favourite. It gave us a brilliant spin-off show and made it’s showrunner have a huge devoted fan-following.
So as a show that dragged me into the Cult TV Show following; it’s time to revisit Buffy Summers season-by-season as … want to read more?
